Mortality

Death is one of the few certainties we have in life. But when it comes to discussing death most of us avoid the topic. This panel takes a direct look at ways to understand the certainty (and uncertainty) of death on different scales in an interdisciplinary way. Drawing from leading authorities on Buddhism and end of life care, we examine cultural and personal responses to death and how we can contend with the finality (or not) of passing. Additionally, psychiatry and political practices perspectives will be discussed to help us understand the implication of death on the human psyche and how communities that have experienced mass killing and death cope with trauma. Discussing mortality and experiences confronting death will provide new and different insights and perspectives into how we face the ultimate (un)certainty.
